Handpicking the material

While designing the Wave collection, we realised that the material selection will be crucial. Material defines the product and emotions associated with the product. The material selected for the surface finish was defined early in the design process. Continuing the legacy of European furniture makers, american walnut was the choice No.1 because of its exclusivity and extraordinary depth and colour. Every trunk of the walnut tree selected for the veneer industry is handpicked by the tree master and gets a special treatment in the lumber mill.

Then we step in. We personally select all the veneers in the lumber yard. They will be trimmed and stitched together to create a flawless, continuous veneer layer. This layer we then apply in the manufacturing process of the Wave collection. The application follows the rule of continuous flow of the wood lines. In order to achieve this, every piece of veneer has to be manually trimmed, checked and applied on the item. It is a time consuming and focused work. Our precision at this stage defines the quality of the product later on and cannot be modified later.

After finishing the application of veneer, all edges and excessive material is trimmed, sand papered and filled. Final surface finis is applied to create the deep glow. We use cellulose based clear high gloss lacquer to generate deep glow of all the wooden fibres. We use as much as 16 layers of lacquer, giving the product an exclusive long lasting gloss mirroring its environment.
